A large library of books on Jamaica can be formed. The bibliography of books on Jamaica by Frank Cundall is worth acquiring and fortunately a reprint has been published. This book is not in stock at the moment though.

;) | BRIDGES Rev. George Wilson The Annals of Jamaica. John Murray, London (1828) 2 vols. xii + 604pp + xii + 505pp + [1] errata. 1st ed., second issue. Clean in modern quarter calf. Half titles and title pages a little foxed. Title pages with small h/s partially erased. The author was strongly in favour of slavery and anti Methodist. The book was taken off the market by court order following action brought against the publisher by two free persons of colour, Lescesne and Escoffery, who had been deported from Jamaica unjustly, because of the libel it contained about them. Bound with Robert Townsend Farquhar, 'Suggestions, Arising from the Abolition of the African Slave Trade for Supplying the Demands of the West India Colonies with Agricultural Labourers.' 66pp + publisher's ads. Mathison was a retired estate owner who supported abolition and discusses inefficient agricultural methods used by the planters. Farquhar in his work was the first to suggest the use of free labourers from China and the East Indies. | £450 |
