There is a surprisingly rich resource of books on the West Indies.  Only a few books on the Caribbean are commonly found in bookshops but there are an enormous range of titles in existence.  There is a fine online bibliography of West Indies books, mostly sorted by author, compiled by Don Mitchell at http://books.ai

Books are carefully described but if you have particular concerns please e mail enquires to me.

Post and packing is extra.  Orders are packed carefully and covered by my insurance.   Costs are kept to a  minimum.  Overseas orders are normally sent by airmail and orders for bulky items or multiple books can be sent very cheaply by M Bag Media mail, a heavily discounted airmail service.

WILLIAMS C.R. A Tour through the island of Jamaica, from the western to the eastern end, in the year 1823 London: Printed for Hunt and Clarke 1826 Half title + xviii + 352pp. 1st ed., very clean in contemporary half calf with marbled boards. A very fine copy. There are no plates with this edition and none are called for. From research I have discovered that some copies come with a frontispiece while copies from I believe only the second ed. come with 5 litho plates. The author found the slaves to be happy and content and attacks Wilberforce and the Methodist ministers.

General Sir Charles Grey, K.B. and Vice Admiral Sir John Jervis, K.B. commanders in chief in the West Indies; with the reduction of the islands of Martinique, St Lucia, Guadeloupe, Marigalante, Desiada, &c. and the events that followed those unparrelled successes, and caused the loss of Guadeloupe. London, printed by T. Bensley for G. Nicol 1796 149 + [5] + 62 large pp + plan of Fort Bourbon in Martinique and map of the island with two aquatint engravings in text. 4to. 1st ed., a few tone spots otherwise fine in half calf retaining original marbled boards. 9 x 11in The author was a chaplain with the British navy at the time of the occurrence of the events described. Rare. Note this edition does not include the full page acquatint plates. It is printed in a smaller size font and has much smaller margins than the other edition.
