1845 (26 Dec) boxed COLONIES &c ART 12 boxed mark on EL from Pointe A Pitre, Guadeloupe to France with Pointe A Pitre and Basseterre cds's and Angl Calais French entry mark. Endorsed 'Voir d'Angleterre.' The convention requiring the use of Article 12 for unpaid letters "From other Colonies and Countries beyond sea" for France went into effect on June 1, 1843. This is an example used on the last day

London, printed by T. Bensley for G. Nicol 1796 149 + [5] + 62 large pp + plan of Fort Bourbon in Martinique and map of the island with two aquatint engravings in text. 4to. 1st ed., a few tone spots otherwise fine in half calf retaining original marbled boards. 9 x 11" The author was a chaplain with the British navy at the time of the occurrence of the events described. Rare. Note this edition does not include the full page acquatint plates. It is printed in a smaller size font and has much smaller margins than the other edition.
